The "L'ORÉAL Austria For Women in Science Fellowship" is an extension of the international "L'ORÉAL-UNESCO For Women in Science" program. Kerstin Hummer was awarded the fellowship in a ceremony held at the Austrian Academy of Sciences on October 21st, 2008.

Aim of the program is to support excellent young female PhD students and female Post Docs to encourage their university careers and to make female scientists more visible to the public.

 

Kerstin Hummer's field of research describes optical properties of the functional molecules on crystalline surfaces. She studied Technical Chemistry at the TU Vienna. After her PhD studies at the University of Graz, she worked at the Institute of Physics at the University of Graz. Since her return to Vienna, Kerstin Hummer has been working at the department of Computational Materials Physics at the Faculty of Physics, Universität Wien.

Since 2007 Kerstin Hummer has been president of the association Physicae et Chimicae solidorum Amici, which organizes conferences and symposia on theoretical and experimental material sciences.

Kerstin Hummer has been awarded several other awards, e.g. by the University of Graz, by the Maria Schaumayer-Foundation and by the Austrian Physical Society (AT&S Research Grant).
